Sunset Boulevard – Sydney & Melbourne Opera Houses

For Sunset Boulevard, Design Stage was commissioned to design and draught a large sweeping staircase capable of supporting multiple cast members in performance. The structure combined strength, elegance, and adaptability to meet the demands of two major venues — the Sydney and Melbourne Opera Houses.

The staircase featured polycarbonate wall panels, allowing for subtle lighting effects and controlled transparency with minimal structural framework behind. This achieved a visually striking result while maintaining stability and ease of assembly.

Working in close collaboration with TR2, the entire unit was modelled in 3D, with full construction and fabrication drawings produced in-house.

Constructed at TR2 workshops in Plymouth.
