The Book of Mormon – Folketeateret

For The Book of Mormon at Folketeateret, Design Stage was instructed to design and draught several key scenic elements — including a series of large show portals, an Ugandan lorry, and a forced-perspective chandelier that appeared three-dimensional but was, in reality, almost flat.

The two main portals were constructed from lightweight steel, with CNC-routed panels on the face and integrated LED lighting recessed within. This allowed for multiple colour effects and visual transitions throughout the production.

The Ugandan portals presented a significant weight challenge due to venue restrictions. After several design iterations in steel, a final solution using 18mm CNC-cut plywood with fabric elements above was developed — achieving the desired aesthetic while keeping the overall structure light and stable.

The chandelier featured a rolled steel frame with CNC-cut polycarbonate panels and integrated LED lighting, creating a visually striking focal piece that delivered both depth and precision on stage.

Constructed at TR2 workshops in Plymouth.
