The Wizard of Oz – Gillian Lynne Theatre
For this production, Design Stage was tasked with designing and draughting three arrow-shaped performance platforms that could be manoeuvred and stood on safely by the cast. Each unit needed to be lightweight, stable, and easily repositioned on stage.
To achieve this, we designed a simple steel structure and used a pneumatic castor system allowing the arrows to roll smoothly when activated via a discreet push-button, and land firmly in place when stationary. The system was designed for easy refilling between performances, ensuring reliability throughout the show run.
The arrow platforms were constructed from polycarbonate with integrated LED lighting and a complex interlocking CNC structure for strength and precision. The entire project was modelled in 3D, with full 2D fabrication drawings and CNC cutting files supplied for manufacture.
Constructed at TR2 workshops in Plymouth.
