MISS SAIGON - FOLKETEATERET
For this production, Design Stage was commissioned to design and draught a series of large, multi-level performance trucks — including the Dreamland Truck, Bedroom Truck, Bangkok Truck, and Embassy Gates. Each unit needed to be manually operated, stable, and safe for performers to walk and climb on during the show.
Constructed primarily from steel sections and timber cladding, the designs were fully detailed in 3D, with all bolted connections modelled and translated into fabrication and carpentry drawings. This ensured every element could be completed accurately in the workshop before on-site assembly.
When required, structural engineers were consulted to provide supporting documentation for load and safety verification. The Bedroom Truck featured an integrated motion drive system allowing the unit to rotate in place — a complex mechanism that was first fitted directly on stage and performed seamlessly on its debut.
Constructed at TR2 workshops in Plymouth.
